iTunes Website Reviews are Back!

logoiLearn students are again reviewing the best of the best that can be found on the web. They visit educational sites, chose one, and wrote a review.  Garageband was then employed to record their script and to construct the intro and outro jingles.

Search on the iTunes store for iLearn and be sure to subscribe to the podcast.

The Door Scene

Catch a glimpse of some future movie directors and actors. The guidelines given were:

A person is about to open a door. The person hears a sound and becomes mildly concerned. The person finds the door locked and searches for his or her keys. The person hears the sound again and becomes visibly apprehensive. As the filmmaker,  your goal is to build tension and growing panic, using any visual element or device that you can think of.  The film closes with the person finally opening the door and getting to the other side safely. Communicate to the audience the character’s feeling of relief and safety.

Qanuippit? Select and Speak

Qanuippit?*

Screen Shot 2013-11-13 at 1.43.10 PM

I stopped by a few of the MS Modern Language classes to get an opinion on a text-to-speech app called Select and Speak. It is a simple extension for the Chrome Browser.  Once installed, the user highlights text and the computer will speak the words. It is doubly cool as the program will determine what the language is first and then speak with an accent that a few of you say is adequate/excellent.

I think is would be cool for students to hear what they are reading online.

To install:
A. 1. Go to Chrome Web Store   2. Search for “Select and Speak” 3. Install
Icon will appear as a small icon with the icons at the end of your are address bar.

B. Ask Sturgeon or Chadwick to stop by and demonstrate.

Youtube Suggested Videos Workaround

By default, Youtube suggests videos to viewers once a video has completed. It shows up in checkerboard form at the end of the video.
Example:

Screen Shot 2013-10-07 at 12.32.07 PM

Depending on what the previous viewers of the video have also watched, there may be videos suggested that may not be appropriate.

There is a way to prevent suggested videos from appearing at the end on a video in you blog.

Now when the video plays, suggested videos will not appear at the conclusion of the video.

Here is a great song that demonstrates the change.
